Zack Beatty

Zack Beatty is the founder of Santa Monica Critical Mass. He facilitated and promoted the ride successfully until he moved to NY City in May 2007.

In addition to founding and building the largest ride West of La Cienega, Zack is the cofounder of the Bikerowave along with Yolanda Hodde and fellow SMCM rider Alex Thompson. While in LA he contributed to the bike culture as a frequent participant in Midnight Ridazz Rides and by assisting in organizing events. He was also an influential figure amongst Westside progressives, in particular as the youngest member ever of the California Greens board.

Zack took a different take on Critical Mass than is typical. He deemphasized the usual element of conflict and political protest. He emphasized the ride as a slower, easy ride which was mellow enough for parents to bring their children. He placed emphasis on keeping the ride fun and reaching out to people outside the existing bike community.
