Aaron Kirsch

made a few minor changes, recent resignation of Aaron Kirsch Plurabelle 22:24, 21 April 2008 (PDT)

Just saw this. As I said on your Talk page, I think we ought to just remove Aaron Kirsch from the list since it's Current Board. And, I was also told this grant was a PLACE Grant, was I misinformed? Alex 22:36, 21 April 2008 (PDT)

Value of the PLACE grant

What are the total funds for the PLACE grant and what is the schedule for dispersing these funds? I'm interested, and I'm sure others are. I can haz? Alex 00:20, 11 May 2008 (PDT)

It's a public grant, so I think it's ok to release the numbers, but I don't have exacts because things got complicated due to schedule changes and other changes on the LA County Dept of Public Health (LADPH) side. The grant was originally intended to be disbursed over four terms, a small first term from February-June 30, 2008 ($40,000--which has been eliminated from the scope of the grant or reduced severely), and then three other annual terms each totaling between $100,000 and $110,000 coinciding with the July-June 30 fiscal years following the first term (July 1-June 30 2008-09,July 1-June 30 2009-10,July-June 30 2010-11). The money will be allocated in reimbursements, meaning after LACBC pays for things like grant coordinator salary, they will submit accounts and be reimbursed. But, administrative and approval process problems at LADPH delayed the start of the grant, and now it looks like term 1 will be only one month long, or will be eliminated completely. Further complicating things is that LADPH wanted to give out more grants, which reduced our budget, but then one entity dropped out, so that allowed us to proceed with the original budget, but the calendar changed again.
Former LACBC Director Stephen Box introduced LACBC to the city of Glendale (our partner)
Directors Kent Strumple, Erik Knutzen, and Alex Kenefick (me) wrote the grant and budgeted it. Executive Director Jennifer Klausner has limited staff time to the process.
LACBC is also involved in two other PLACE Grants (though in an advisory role only --I don't think we get money from these) City of Santa Monica, and Culver City (which was assisted by former Director Matt Benjamin).
Personally, I tried to get a PLACE grant going with Josef at the Oven, but we found that we were trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, Josef and I gave up on that effort after the initial application. http://bikeoven.com/archives/49. Though our effort ultimately failed, this is the kind of collaborative stuff that we want to expand on and do more of in the future.

Alex . . . I indented your comments, which is the way wiki editors use to distinguish one persons comments from another. Click edit to see how I placed a colon at the beginning of each paragraph to do this.
Perhaps when the disbursement schedule is firm you can summarize it here? Alex 12:05, 11 May 2008 (PDT)
