Mountain Biking in LA County

Living in Los Angeles can be a frustrating thing for a mountain cyclist, with the recreational activity being a crime (LAMC Section 86.04) in most city parks including Griffith Park, the largest urban park in the country with its vast network of dirt trails and roads. The same goes for Elysian Park. Area residents are so adamant about bikes not being allowed on the trails there that even the LAPD's Bicycle Unit officers are forbidden from training there -- in the hills surrounding the L.A. Police Academy!

Having said that there are opportunities nearby for getting off road and above it all that are entirely allowed and legal:

• San Gabriel Mountains
