Getting Started

The User's Guide is a good starting place for information on using the wiki software. In particular, the Editor's section is very well organized and helpful.

Play around, everything is reversible, so don't worry about messing things up. If you really want to play around, try the Sandbox. If you're ambitious and technically inclined, help me work out Templates for cyclists, rides, and organizations.

The core skillset

MediaWiki documentation is quite good, I highly recommend reading it to get started.

  1. Introduction to Editing
  2. Starting Pages
  3. The core markup in Wiki
  4. Lists! Get good at em.
  5. Sections and Headings
  6. Working with Categories
  7. An important skill eventually is redirecting pages, which relates to moving pages.
  8. Understanding Recent Changes
  9. Reverting changes
  10. HTML can be used in MediaWiki, but you should try to avoid it as much as possible, since it makes collaboration with others difficult, and the markup is often awkward.
  11. An advanced skill that can be very useful - Transclusion
