The phrase came into its own during the latter half of 2007, when participants of urban social bicycle rides began spontaneously chanting it in slightly different form ("every lane's a bike lane"). Since then, riders have found it amusing to take liberties with the operative noun in the phrase, such that every X is a bike X (notably, every tree is a bike tree). Further experimenting has led to the revelation that every cat's a lolcat. More provocatively, some assert that every light's a green light. Every chant is a bike chant. Also, Every day is Earth day.
Variants
On or around Earth Day, the variant "Every day is an Earth Day!" can be heard. This is one way of reminding people that jacking up the environment 364 days a year and being good one day does not really get the job done.
