Founding

CubCamp, formally known as Cubpack, was originally founded by Richie Thomassen as a training ride for the Wolfpack Hustle on March 22nd, 2007. It has grown to be one of the main weekly bike events on the Westside. Members of CubCamp also frequently play important roles in other Westside events, such as leading the Westside on the 2007 All City Toy Ride.

Meetup Times

CubCamp is a weekly ride on Thursday nights which meets at the Bikerowave at 8.30pm and leaves at 9.00pm.

Ride Description

CubCamp runs on a 5 week cycle where the first week is the easiest and the fifth is the hardest. The rides can be anywhere from 10 to 50+ miles depending on which week in the cycle it is. Which week in the cycle the ride is on is posted on Midnight Ridazz calender posts.

CubCamp employs the use of themes on occasion to add variety to the ride experience. Past examples includes the "senses," when each week routes and stopping destinations were chosen that emphasized different senses, such as sight, sound, smell and taste.

Due to CubCamps proximity to LAX they have been known to Swarm! The Airport! from time to time...

Friends of the Friendless

Friends of the Friendless (FotF) is the traditional week one ride where Cubcampers ride out of The Bikerowave in search of lonely riders and befriend them, sometimes forcefully if needed. FotF has received rave reviews from riders across the Los Angeles Metro Area and continues to grow.

ExtraCredits

ExtraCredits is a ride created in addition to the current CubCamp schedule which occurs once a month in various locations across the greater Los Angeles Metro Area. The rides are currently being planned and organized by E-Rock. The goal of ExtraCredits is to supplement the desire of Cubbies to ride extra long distances which they would otherwise be unable to achieve during a standard CubCamp Ride. The main inspiration for this ride came from the CubCamp 1 year anniversary Cublife 24/7/365 ride which was on March 21st, 2008.

  • The first ExtraCredits ride was on April 12th, 2008 and traveled to Ojai, CA.

The AllCity Curse

Like many (in)famous athletic teams, celebrities, presidential nominees, endangered species, lost cultures and distant relatives (strangely enough all of which CubCamp can be classified as...) CubCamp is the victim of an esoteric and devious curse. Unaware of the cause or cure of the curse theories abound about whether this enchantment was brewed up by CubCamp's cross town neighbors, the Wolfpack, as a right of passage, or if in CubCamp's voyages through the City of Angles and it's surrounding areas CubCamp has inadvertently riled up some nasty spirits. Either way, this nasty of nasties projects unfortunate luck on CubCamp during any event labeled "All," "City," or (espeically) "AllCity." CubCamp's Cub Leaders are currently working on a counter curse to rid them of this unfortunate luck, however, it's been taking a little longer to brew than expected, and as such the aformentioned words are considered taboo in the confines of CubCamp activities.

Recent occurances of the "AllCity Curse" include:

  • July 2007: Cubcamp narrowly looses Wolfpack's AllCity Race after a crash lost them the necessary 30 seconds to become victorious.
  • August 31, 2008: CubCamp once again looses the Wolfpack's AllCity Race after a flat tire during the early stages of the race renders victory impossible. Subtracting the time required to change the flat, CubCamp was in a position to decimate the competition.
