A bike lane is a lane, intended for use by bicycles.

Though many bike lanes are designated "Bikes Only," others often occupy the lane. These others include joggers, roller-bladers, horseback riders, strollers, trash cans, and wildlife (including bums).

Reasons Bike Lanes are Created:

  • So politicians can appear to be on the "green" bandwagon
  • To increase property values
  • To get cyclists the HELL off the roadway

Are Bike Lanes Good?

  • Yes - They provide a safer place where cyclists can ride and get honked at less often
  • No - They are often placed next to parked cars and are of insufficient width to permit riding outside the door zone, there are also often poorly maintained
